Do you tip package delivery drivers?
Yes, when you book and pay a courier through an app to bring a parcel or a large item, such as Roadie, GoShare, Bungii or Dolly. This page does not cover your regular mail carrier or a parcel company's route driver.
How much to tip for a package delivery
Use one rule for every courier app:
- Find the delivery charge on the receipt. Leave out the price of the item.
- Tip 15–20% of that charge.
- If there is no delivery charge, or if 15% of the charge is under $3, tip $3.

Put the delivery charge in the Order Total field. The calculator starts at 18% and never shows less than $3. Leave Delivery Distance on Medium and Weather on Normal, because the other settings add 2 to 5 percentage points. The rows below are worked examples, not a courier's prices.

A $20 charge at 15% is $3.00. At 18% it is $3.60. A drop-off with no charge is $3.

When to use 20%
Use the top of the range when the driver:
- carries a heavy or awkward piece inside
- walks the item upstairs
- waits while you check the item for damage
- delivers in rain, snow, or extreme heat
Use 15%, or the $3 minimum, for a light item left at the door.
Cash or in the app
Use the tip field if the app has one. Hand cash if you meet the driver and the app has no tip field. Do not add a second tip on a line that is already named tip or gratuity. A line named delivery fee, fuel or service is not a tip. If you want to know who keeps that fee, check the app's help page.
