Do you tip a Shipt shopper?

Yes. We recommend a tip on every Shipt order. Your shopper picks your groceries, sorts out substitutions, and brings the bags to your door.

How much to tip a Shipt shopper

We recommend 15–20% of the order subtotal. The subtotal is the price of your items before fees and tax.

On small orders, we recommend a $3 minimum. A percentage of a small subtotal can come out to pocket change. The floor keeps the tip worth the trip.

Here is the rule in one line: tip the larger of your subtotal times your percentage, or $3.

Example: an $80 subtotal at 18% (the calculator's starting point) is $80 × 0.18 = $14.40.

If items are out of stock or swapped, base the tip on the final subtotal you pay. If the shopper put real work into good substitutions, tip at the top of our range.

Factors Influencing Tip Amounts

Pick a point inside our range based on how much work the order took. Move to the top of the range for harder orders. Use the low end for quick, simple ones. Keep the $3 minimum either way.

Order size and complexity

Large orders take longer to shop, bag, and carry. Specialty items, custom requests, and long lists of substitutions add more work.

Heavy items count too. Cases of water, pet food, and bulk bags are hard to haul up stairs. For orders like these, we recommend the top of our range.

Delivery timing and weather

If your shopper delivers in rain, snow, or heat, we recommend the top of our range. The same goes for rush-hour and last-minute orders.

A delivery that lands right when you need it is worth rewarding. So is one that arrives on time despite bad roads.

Service quality and item handling

Watch for the details. Did your shopper message you about out-of-stock items? Were the eggs whole and the cold items still cold?

Careful packing and clear communication earn the top of our range. If the order was correct but simple, the low end is fair.

How to tip a Shipt shopper

We recommend setting a tip at checkout. Then adjust it soon after delivery if the order took more or less work than you planned.

If you plan to tip in cash, have small bills ready before the shopper arrives. If you tip in the app, check the amount before you submit it.
